history
Professional ice hockey has been played in Binghamton since the early 1970s. Initially, the Broome Dusters from the North American Hockey League played here between 1973 and 1977, from which the Binghamton Dusters emerged. Between 1980 and 1990 the Binghamton Whalers were active, who then played as Binghamton Rangers in the American Hockey League and served as the New York Rangers' farm team until 1997 . Between 1997 and 2002 there was only fourth class ice hockey in Binghamton with the BC Icemen from the United Hockey League .
In 2002, Ottawa Senators management decided to revive their farm team, the Prince Edward Island Senators , which had been inactive since 1996, and relocate them to Binghamton. In the first season of the B-Sens , the team reached the playoffs with 97 points, but was eliminated in the conference final against the Hamilton Bulldogs . In the following years, this success was initially not repeated - five seasons in a row, the playoffs were not reached. It was not until the 2010/11 season that the team qualified again for the finals after six years of abstinence. In the final series of the Calder Cup , they defeated the Houston Eros in six encounters and won the Calder Cup for the first time.
After the 2016/17 season, the team was relocated to Belleville in the Canadian province of Ontario , where it is now known as Belleville Senators . The gap in Binghamton was also filled by the Albany Devils , who participate there as Binghamton Devils in the AHL game operations.
