Anton Alexejewitsch Woltschenkow ( Russian Антон Алексеевич Волченков ; born February 25, 1982 in Moscow , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod from the Continental Hockey League since 2018 . His father Alexei was also a ice hockey player and celebrated numerous successes with CSKA Moscow .
Career
The 1.85 m tall defender first played for HK CSKA Moscow before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft as 21st in the first round by the Ottawa Senators .
After two more years in Russia, which the left-shooter spent at Krylya Sowetow Moscow , Volchenkov finally moved to North America, where he was used by the Senators for the first time in the NHL in the 2002/03 season . In April 2007, the defender extended his contract with the franchise , with which he reached the final of the Stanley Cup in the same year , but there lost to the Anaheim Ducks , by three years. On July 1, 2010, he was hired as an unrestricted free agent by the New Jersey Devils for six seasons. There he earned $ 4.25 million per season annually.
Again as a free agent, he was signed on July 7, 2014 by the Nashville Predators from the NHL. The contract was valid for one year and was worth $ 1 million. After the contract expired, it was not renewed.
In May 2016 he returned to Russia and signed with the Far Eastern club Admiral Vladivostok from the KHL . In May 2018, his contract was terminated and at the end of the month Volchenkov signed a one-year contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod , where he had already played during the lockout in 2012.
International
With the Russian national team , Anton Woltschenkow took part in the ice hockey world championships in 2002 and 2009 , the World Cup of Hockey 2004 and the Olympic ice hockey tournament in 2006 . In 2009 he became world champion with Russia. He also competed with the juniors in the U18 Junior World Championships in 2000 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2002 and 2001 , in which the "Sbornaja" won the gold medal.
