Michail Michailowitsch Warnakow ( Russian Михаил Михайлович Варнаков ; born March 1, 1985 in Gorky , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod from the Continental Hockey League since 2018 . His father Mikhail was also a hockey player.
Career
Mikhail Warnakov began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior division of Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod , for whose second team he was initially active in the 2001/02 season in the third-rate Pervaya League . He then moved to the youth department of HK Dynamo Moscow , but came in the 2002/03 season there only for Dynamo's second team in the Pervaya League for use, whereupon he returned to Nizhny Novgorod. In the 2003/04 season , the attacker was able to prevail in the professional team of Torpedo in the Super League , but had to accept relegation to the Wysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, with his team .
In the Wysschaja Liga, Warnakow developed into one of the leading players at Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and he finally reached promotion to the Superliga in the 2006/07 season with his team as the second division champions. After another Super League season, he has been playing with Torpedo in the newly founded Continental Hockey League since the 2008/09 season . In the KHL, too, he was able to underpin his leadership role in the team and scored an average of every three games in his first three KHL seasons.
During the 2012/13 season, he became a top performer within his team and was invited to the 2013 KHL All-Star Game . At the end of January 2013, after Torpedo had no chance of reaching the play-offs, Warnakov was given to the SKA Saint Petersburg . For the SKA he scored 12 points in 19 KHL games by the end of the season and was named KHL striker of the month for February. In June 2013 he was signed by Ak Bars Kazan .
International
For Russia , Warnakov took part in the Euro Hockey Tour in 2010 . He remained pointless and punished in two games.
