The Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena is a multi-purpose arena in the US city of Binghamton , New York State . It is the venue for the home games of the Binghamton Devils from the American Hockey League (AHL).
Until the end of June 2014, the venue was named Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena . Maines Paper and Food Service, Inc. acquired the naming rights for an initial five years. Optionally, the contract can be extended up to a further 15 years. Maines Paper and Food Service, Inc. pays annually 75,000 for the rights of US dollars .
history
Construction of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena began in June 1971 and opened on August 29, 1973 after around two years of construction. The arena was built for a competition. Even before the opening, the first event with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus took place in May 1973. The jazz rock band Chicago gave their first concert with Bruce Springsteen in the opening act on June 20, 1973.
As the first ice hockey team, the Broome Dusters from the NAHL were based in the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena from 1973 to 1977. From 1977 to 1980, the AHL wore franchise of Binghamton Dusters of the home games in the arena. After its dissolution, the Binghamton Whalers team used the arena as their home ground for the next ten years . The arena was also the venue for the home games of the Binghamton Rangers (AHL) and BC Icemen (UHL).
From 2002 to 2017, the venue hosted the home games of the Binghamton Senators , the fourth AHL franchise from Binghamton. In 2008 the AHL All-Star Classic took place in the arena. In 2017, several franchises moved to another location, so that the arena is now home to the Binghamton Devils .
The multifunctional arena is also used for other events such as concerts, basketball show games, theater and family shows.
