The BMO Harris Bank Center (previously known as Rockford Metro Center ) is a multi-purpose hall in the city of Rockford in Winnebago County of American US state of Illinois . It's nicknamed The Big Orange Box because of its facade . The event hall, which is octagonal in its basic shape, offers 10,000 seats.
history
The BMO Harris Bank Center opened in 1981 with a concert by Dionne Warwick . It is currently home to the American Hockey League's Rockford Icehogs . They are the farm team of the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League . The Rock River Raptors arena football team has played at Rockford Arena since 2006 . The indoor soccer team of Rockford Rampage ( MISL ) was based at the venue for two years until it was dissolved in 2010 . The Rockford Lightning CBA basketball team was based in Rockford from 1986 to 2006.
Other events in the arena were z. B. Concerts, monster truck and motocross races, Disney ice shows, circus and show performances or games by the Harlem Globetrotters .
In November 2006, the operators, the City of Rockford and Winnebago County presented plans to convert the hall. The trigger was the relocation of the Chicago Blackhawks AHL farm team to Rockford. The negotiated franchise agreement runs for 10 years and the team was named Rockford Icehogs . On June 21, 2007, work began on the multi-purpose arena. The construction work included a. the renovation of the facade, club boxes and lounge , a modern video display board , 11 luxury suites , a new press stand, new sales stands and kiosks and a shopping center . Most of the renovation was completed in December 2008. In August 2010, a five-year contract for the management of the Rockford MetroCentre was negotiated with the real estate company Spectator Management Group (SMG). SMG specializes in the management of urban event buildings.
