The XL Center is a multi-purpose hall and convention center in the US city of Hartford , Connecticut .

history

On January 9, 1975, it opened as the Hartford Civic Center with a concert by Glen Campbell . Just three years after inauguration, the Civic Center had to be closed again. On January 18, 1978, just a few hours after a basketball game, the roof collapsed under an enormous load of snow, and no one was injured. After the reconstruction, the Civic Center opened for the second time on January 17, 1980. A shopping center surrounding the complex was often the reason why fans made fun of the Hartford teams. This shopping center was demolished in 2004 and replaced by a few retail stores and a 36-story residential complex.
