Convention center
A congress center , a conference center or a conference venue are used to organize and hold conferences and congresses. Large facilities are more likely to be referred to as convention centers. small ones mostly rather as a conference venue or center.
A congress center is therefore more used to organize and hold large, mostly international meetings and congresses - be they political or scientific conferences or gatherings of any other kind. Such centers usually combine two or more areas of responsibility:
- the conference building with meeting or lecture halls of various sizes , associated communal, ancillary and administrative rooms
- the ability to organize the meetings: specialist staff, administration and infrastructure
- often rented rooms for external organizations participating in the conferences.
Congress centers are almost exclusively located in large cities and require good transport links to the respective main train station or airport by subway and expressway or federal highway. A location outside the city center usually facilitates the establishment of new transport connections, but the proximity to a university or - because of the special ambience - a location in the old town was often preferred.
Many convention centers have been equipped for the additional function of a cultural center , a general event center or an exhibition center . Some also have a corresponding guest house attached.
