construction

As part of an architectural competition, the design by the Dasch, Zürn office, was selected by Scholley from Stuttgart from 30 proposals and commissioned with the implementation by a resolution of the local council in June 2006. In consideration of the existing urban proportions, emphasis was placed on integrating it into the existing topography and the structure of the congress center was integrated into a depression. For the construction of the hotel, which is connected to the congress center by a glazed corridor, and the underground car park in between, it was necessary to demolish the Schlossberg by about 16 meters, so that the eaves of the conference hotel is now roughly at the height of the former high point of the site .

The conference hotel, which is connected to the Congress Centrum Heidenheim, extends as an approximately 140 meter long building complex directly on the slope edge of the Schlossberg above the city of Heidenheim. The ground floor, set back by around two meters, is intended to underline the slim building structure and make the two upper floors appear as free-floating parts of the building.

The entire area covers around 42,400 m²; the construction costs amounted to 52 million euros.

inside rooms

The visitor's cloakroom in the congress center consists of a green glass wall, which is intended to reflect the green and wooded surroundings on Heidenheim's Schlossberg.

A Jura marble stone floor from southern Germany was laid in the foyer of the building . Depending on the layer from which the stone is sawn, the Jura marble has different colors and other stone inclusions.

The largest hall in the Congress Centrum Heidenheim, which offers up to 1,300 seats, was named after Martin Hornung , the former mayor of Heidenheim, who was in office from 1969–1993. The stage floor in the Martin-Hornung-Saal is made of Douglas fir , 45 mm.

The lamellar façades of the hall were mainly attached for visual reasons: Since the room is otherwise kept in black, the wooden lamellas with a three-color coating should give the room tension and dynamism. When viewed from the stage to the rear, the colors are lighter, but when the viewer has taken their place and is looking at the stage, the colors are darker and more reserved in order to keep the focus on the event on the stage. The slats should also have a positive effect on the room acoustics and conceal ventilation and acoustic slots inconspicuously.

The pane front in the large foyer is extraordinary, as the pane formats are kept to the maximum possible. In addition, during the construction phase there was also the difficulty that the concrete beam can settle by up to 8 cm according to calculations. This led to immense problems with the connection details, especially because of the exposed concrete . This problem was also solved by means of sheet metal reveals that are designed so that the carrier could theoretically still sit. The panes were designed with the greatest sun protection value in order to avoid external sun protection on the east facade.
