history

The conference and congress business played an important role for the Cologne trade fair at an early stage . The spring fair in 1925 was the first large fair to which numerous congresses were already affiliated. With growing success in the 1950s, the Cologne Exhibition Center increased its conference space. From 1973 the Cologne exhibition center was expanded and modernized. In 1977 the new building of the east halls and the East Congress Center was completed. The Cologne Exhibition Center had two independent Congress Centers that could be used for any event size and that were officially run as the Congress Center East and West Koelnmesse until 2005.

With the turn of the millennium, Koelnmesse drew up a master plan for the redesign of the entire exhibition center: Four modern exhibition halls were built and the Congress Center North was opened in 2006 to replace the previous Rheinhallen with the Congress Center West. The Congress Center North is connected directly to the Congress Center East via the covered exhibition boulevard.

In addition to numerous supporting events at trade fairs and congresses, various medical congresses were held in the Congress Center Koelnmesse.
