The CNIT ( Center des Nouvelles Industries et Technologies -. Dt center of new industries and technologies ) is the oldest building in the business district of La Defense and is located at a central location, directly opposite the Grande Arche and the shopping center Les Quatre Temps. It belongs to the district of the Paris suburb Puteaux .

Building history

It was built between 1956 and 1958 . Characteristic is the self-supporting roof structure made of reinforced concrete (22,500 m³) with a structure made of a double curved vault. At a height of 46 m, the main arches span a width of 218 m between the three abutments, which form the corners of an equilateral triangle. In the first few decades its main purpose was an exhibition hall for French industry until some exhibitions moved to the Porte de Versailles exhibition center .

The architects were Robert Edouard Camelot, Jean de Mailly and Bernard Zehrfuss . The work on the metal facades was carried out under the direction of the engineer Jean Prouvé .

In 1988 the usable area was doubled to around 200,000 m² by gutting the building and redesigning it. Another renovation took place in 2009. a. realized the underground connection to La Défense train station .

Today the CNIT serves as a congress center. There are also numerous shops and a hotel.
