Eberhard von Koerber (born June 11, 1938 in Stade ; † August 3, 2017 ) was a German manager . As a member of the Board of Management of BMW , he was in charge of sales and marketing from 1984 to 1986. Between 1988 and 1998 he was responsible for Asea Brown Boveri's activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa as Vice President of the Executive Committee in Zurich. From 2007 to 2012 he was Co-President of the Club of Rome .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1958 at the Johanneum Humanist High School in Lüneburg , Eberhard von Koerber studied law and economics in Heidelberg , Lausanne and Göttingen . Since 1958 he was a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg . In 1967 he was at the Free University of Berlin Dr. jur. PhD.

Eberhard von Koerber began his career in 1967 at Glanzstoff AG as a lawyer for international law. From 1969 he was assistant to the chairman of the board. In 1972 he switched to BMW, where he was appointed assistant to the chairman of the board, Eberhard von Kuenheim , and headed the general secretariat. From 1973 he was responsible for the main financial planning department. After a managerial position in North America , he headed BMW in South Africa from 1977 . In 1984 he was appointed to the Board of Management of BMW, where he was in charge of sales and marketing.

1986 Eberhard von Koerber joined Brown, Boveri & Cie. and acted as General Manager and member of the Executive Committee. After the merger of Brown, Boveri & Cie. with the Swedish energy company Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget to ABB , he was CEO of the German Asea Brown Boveri AG (ABB) in Mannheim from 1988 to 1994 . Between 1988 and 1998 he was Vice President of the Executive Committee of ABB and was responsible for activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In February 1988, Asea Brown Boveri was strategically realigned to focus on the core areas of energy, transport and environmental technology. In 1990, the position in Central and Eastern Europe was strengthened through an ambitious acquisition course. In 1994 Eberhard von Koerber joined the supervisory board of the German ABB. Between 1997 and 1999 he was chairman of the supervisory board.

Since 1999 Eberhard von Koerber was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eberhard von Koerber AG in Zurich. Eberhard von Koerber AG is a family office with a focus on asset management and legal advice.

Eberhard von Koerber was a member of various supervisory boards. He was a member of the supervisory and administrative boards of Allianz , Dresdner Bank AG , Bank Julius Bär , Hapag-Lloyd and Wilh. Werhahn KG .

Eberhard von Koerber was a member of the New Social Market Economy initiative . In 1999 he was one of the founders of the Wittenberg Center for Global Ethics . He was elected Vice President of the Club of Rome in 2000. From 2003 to 2006 Eberhard von Koerber was chairman of the World Scout Foundation and board member of the Orchestra Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker . Between 2007 and 2012 Eberhard von Koerber was one of the two co-presidents of the Club of Rome.

He was co-founder and board member of the FC Flick Foundation against Xenophobia, Racism and Intolerance .
