Robert von Lucius (born May 2, 1949 in Berlin ) is a German journalist. From 1987 to 2014 he was a correspondent for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Life

As the son of a diplomat, Lucius lived in Oslo from 1952 to 1957 and from 1963 to 1968 in Cape Town and Windhoek , where he graduated from high school in 1967. As a scholarship holder of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (basic and doctoral funding ), he studied law and political science at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Bonn from 1968 to 1973 . He became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg (1968) and Corpsschleifträger of Borussia Bonn (1980). In Heidelberg he was involved in university politics . After the legal traineeshiphe was a research assistant at the Canon Law Institute and research assistant at the International Law Institute of the University of Bonn. As a freelance journalist, he gave many lectures. In 1979 he became the publisher and editor-in-chief of the specialist journal Afrika - Recht & Wirtschaft . He worked repeatedly in the United States in the McCloy Academic Scholarship Program . Since 1982 editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , he devoted himself in the political newsroom to the topics Africa and Western Europe . From 1987 he was a correspondent in Johannesburg for southern Africa (until 1996) and for all of Africa. In April 2001 he went to Stockholm as a correspondent for Northern Europe and the Baltic States . Since June 2006 he has been a correspondent for Lower Saxony , Saxony-Anhalt and Bremen . His forays through Saxony-Anhalt , published in the FAZ, appeared as a book in 2012. He wrote many articles for encyclopedias, manuals, commemorative publications, art catalogs and anthologies. He is a recognized expert on the photographic work of Jürgen Schadeberg . After retiring, he moved from Hanover to Berlin-Tiergarten . He has been a member of the Association for the History of Berlin since 2016 . Among other things, he looks after the archives of his great-grandfather Robert Hue de Grais ; it is "of national cultural importance".

A "Robert von Lucius" is the central figure in Joanna Kavenna's second novel The Birth of Love (2010). In its issue No. 60 of March 12, 2011, the Hanoverian Neue Presse reported on it (p. 21).
