The Deutsche Afrika Stiftung eV is a non-profit organization that pursues the goal of intensifying the relations between the African countries and Germany and of informing the German public about Africa. It was founded in 1978 after the dissolution of the Deutsche Afrika Gesellschaft, but is not its legal successor. The seat is in Berlin . The current president is Uschi Eid , the vice-presidents are Gabriele Groneberg and Johannes Singhammer , the treasurer is Siegfried Lingel . Honorary president of the association is Karl-Heinz Hornhues .

The association is committed to promoting German-African relations in the sense of peaceful cooperation and international understanding. She is available as a dialogue partner for German and African people from industry and business, politics, civil society, the media and religious communities. DAS eV also takes care of African guests and the diplomatic corps. The aim is to contribute to the successful implementation of the Federal Government's Africa policy guidelines and to improve cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the states and institutions of the African continent. In addition, the improvement of the German understanding of the diversity of Africa is promoted. With its work, DAS eV makes an active contribution to intercultural exchange as well as naming and overcoming historically grown prejudices and stereotypes. One focus of DAS eV is the organization of events such as lectures, readings, panel discussions, seminars, club evenings, etc. The preparation and implementation of the German Africa Prize is also an important part of the foundation's work.

The German Africa Foundation is a member association.

One focus of the association's work is the publication of German-language information on politics, economy and culture in Africa. Since 1978 the German Africa Foundation has published the Afrikapost , founded in 1888 . The magazine was published quarterly in German until 2014.

Since 1993, the association has awarded the German Africa Prize to outstanding personalities from Africa who have made outstanding contributions to freedom, human rights, democracy and sustainable development on the continent.
