After completing his legal clerkship , he also passed the second state examination in 1981 and joined the state capital of Munich as a member of the board of directors. In 1986 he moved to the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior. Singhammer worked there until 1990 as the office manager of State Secretary Peter Gauweiler . In 1990 he moved to the Bavarian State Ministry for Regional Development and Environmental Issues, where he last headed the policy department. Singhammer is a member of the board of trustees of the German Family Association .

Political party
In 1972 Singhammer joined the Junge Union and the CSU. From 1980 to 1982 he was chairman of the JU district association in Munich and from 1999 to 2003 of the CSU district association in Munich.
MP
Johannes Singhammer was a member of the German Bundestag from 1994 to 2017, with a brief interruption in 2005 .
Singhammer was labor and social policy spokesman for the CSU regional group from 1998 to 2002 and from 2002 to 2005 the spokesman for the CSU regional group for business and work, tourism, education and research. From November 2005 to November 2009 he was chairman of the working group on families, seniors, women and youth of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group . From 2009 to 2013 he was deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, responsible for health, nutrition, agriculture and consumer protection.
Singhammer was elected to the Bundestag as a direct candidate for the constituency of Munich-North in 1994, 2009 and 2013 and thus prevailed against SPD competitor Axel Berg in 2009 , against whom he was defeated in 1998, 2002 and 2005. He had previously been drafted via the state list, in 2005 only as a replacement for Edmund Stoiber , who did not take up the mandate in Berlin after the federal election. Singhammer was the only CSU candidate across Bavaria who had missed the direct mandate.
From October 2013 until the end of the 18th electoral term he was Vice President of the 18th German Bundestag.
In the 2017 federal election , Singhammer did not run for the Bundestag again.
Political positions
In September 2012, Singhammer called for the so-called blasphemy paragraph in the German criminal code to be tightened after the anti-Islam vicious video Innocence of Muslims led to violent riots in some countries.
On September 30, 2016, Singhammer, together with members of the Bundestag Michael Kretschmer and Markus Blume, presented a “call for a guiding and framework culture”. The controversial term “ Leitkultur ” is referred to as a “connecting framework culture”. In socially troubled times, people needed orientation, which they would find in terms such as “ home and patriotism ” as well as in the “leading culture”. The use of the German language, tried and tested manners, the spiritual tradition of the Enlightenment and Germany's national symbols such as the flag and the anthem were specifically mentioned. The appeal was motivated, among other things, by the success of the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany in the state elections in 2016.
