Axel Berg (born March 26, 1959 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been chairman of the German section of Eurosolar since 2009 .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1979, Berg studied law and political science in Munich , Tübingen , Aix-Marseille (with a DAAD scholarship) and Frankfurt am Main . After passing the first state examination in law and completing his legal clerkship in the Munich Higher Regional Court district , he passed the second state examination in 1989, both exams with distinction . In 1992 he received his interdisciplinary doctorate as Dr. phil. at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main with the thesis "France's institutions in the nuclear conflict - framework conditions and interests of non-military nuclear policy" . Until 1991 he worked as a lawyer in a commercial law firm, from 1991 to 1993 at Oskar Schunck KG as assistant to the managing director. Berg has been admitted to the bar as an independent lawyer since 1993 .

From 1998 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag . From 2000 to 2002 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Enquête Commission on Sustainable Energy Supply . From 2006 he was deputy spokesman for the parliamentary group working group on energy .

Axel Berg has entered the Bundestag three times as a directly elected member of the Munich-North constituency . In the 2005 Bundestag election he received 43.7% of the first votes . After Christoph Moosbauer's departure, Berg was the only directly elected Bavarian SPD member in the German Bundestag. In the 2009 Bundestag elections, Berg was narrowly defeated by his CSU competitor Johannes Singhammer and could no longer enter the Bundestag via the state list. He was now the first successor on the SPD state list.

For the next federal election , Berg tried again to get a list. On July 19, 2012, however, he was defeated by his opponent Florian Post in the vote on the SPD constituency applicant (Munich-North) . In the election campaign for the 2013 federal election , Berg then supported the ÖDP .

Axel Berg founded the Energiewerk Foundation in 2000 and is Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Since 2009 he has been chairman of the board of the German section of Eurosolar , a non-profit European association for renewable energies .
