Florian Post (2016)

Florian Post (born May 27, 1981 in Neustadt an der Waldnaab ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013 and represents the Munich constituency north in parliament.

Life

Post was born in Neustadt ad Waldnaab (Upper Palatinate). After graduating from the Max-Reger-Gymnasium in Amberg in 2001, he studied business administration with a focus on tax law at the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich and at the University of Passau . After graduating with a degree in business administration (Univ.) In 2006, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers Aktiengesellschaft Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft (PwC) Munich in the field of auditing and transaction consulting . He then worked at Stadtwerke München until mid-2012 as an advisor to the commercial director and then manager of energy policy .

politics

Post is a member of the SPD. From 2005 to 2009 he was chairman of the SPD local association Leuchtenberg , and from 2007 to 2008 he was also a board member of the SPD district association Neustadt ad Waldnaab (Upper Palatinate). From 2011 to 2012 he held the position of cashier of the SPD in the federal electoral district of Munich-North .

On July 19, 2012, he was nominated with a two-thirds majority as an SPD candidate for the constituency of Munich-North for the 2013 federal election, but was defeated in the election of the direct candidate; he finally moved into the German Bundestag via the state list . There he was a member of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy until March 2019, when the parliamentary group recalled him . In Parliament he is a full member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection.

The reason for his dismissal from the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy, which was carried out by the then parliamentary group and party chairman Andrea Nahles , was his repeated divergent voting behavior from the parliamentary group. Post did not agree to the compromise on the so-called ban on advertising for abortions against the proposed law to amend Section 219 of the Criminal Code. When the then President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maassen, was heavily criticized for downplaying right-wing extremist activities, Post was the first member of the Bundestag to sharply criticize the planned promotion of Maassen before the opposition. Post was also of the opinion that no more armaments should be delivered to Saudi Arabia and again openly opposed Olaf Scholz and Andrea Nahles. Post also proposed a radical reform of the SPD and its internal organizational structures. He called for a radical restructuring of the party - both organizationally and personally.

Post is considered a close confidante of the former Federal Foreign Minister and long-time SPD chairman Sigmar Gabriel . Repeatedly he campaigned for a comeback for Sigmar Gabriel.

Political positions

In February 2020, Post called for criminal prosecution suspects to be forced to issue passwords for online accounts with fines or penalties. The criticism of the Federal Government's initiative to combat right-wing extremism and hate crime is inappropriate and serves to “protect offenders”. In this connection, Post limits the fact that his claim relates to serious criminal offenses and the application under the reservation of a judge, but was also open to restricting the constitutionally guaranteed right to refuse to testify . Opponents of Post's positions pointed out, however, that the planned regulation of the federal government was formulated too vaguely and would even be applicable to minor offenses. Post received criticism from the German Lawyers' Association, among others .
