The Konak Square ( Turkish Konak Meydanı ) is a central square and transportation hub in the Turkish metropolis Izmir , located in the district of Konak .
Space design
In the middle of the western half of the square is the clock tower built in 1901 . Around this is the city hall of Izmir to the north and the 18th century Yalı mosque to the east . In front of the town hall is a memorial in honor of the Turkish national hero Hasan Tahsin , who is said to have fired the first shot in the Turkish liberation war when Greek ships landed in Izmir . The eastern limit of the square is Cumhuriyet Boulevard ; the west of Mustafa Kemal Sahil Boulevard. In the south it flows into the Kent-Tarihi-Park (German park of urban history ). Towards Mustafa Kemal Sahil Boulevard, the square is limited by a water staircase .
The Konak port station is across the street from Mustafa Kemal Sahil Boulevard . There are ferries to Karşıyaka , Göztepe , Alsancak and Bayraklı several times a day, about four times an hour .
