The foreign minister is a member of the government of a sovereign state. He is the main person in charge of implementing a country's foreign policy .

In addition, the foreign minister is the highest representative of a state alongside the head of government and is addressed as His Excellency (SE) outside his country . In the field of international relations , he is generally regarded as the fully authorized representative of his country.

With 40 years of service (1975-2015), Saud ibn Faisal was the longest in office as Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (as of 2017).

European states and EU

Germany

In Germany the official name is Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs , he heads the Foreign Office . Heiko Maas ( SPD ) has been Foreign Minister in the Merkel IV cabinet since March 14, 2018 .

Austria

The official name in Austria is currently Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs , he heads the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs (BMEIA). The incumbent minister since June 2019 has been the non-party Alexander Schallenberg .

In Turkey, the official name is Dışişleri Bakanı (German: Minister for Foreign Affairs), he heads the Dışişleri Bakanlığı (German: Ministry of Foreign Affairs). The current official has been Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in the Yildirim cabinet of the AKP since November 24, 2015 .
