Katrin Eggenberger (born September 8, 1982 in Werdenberg SG ) is a Liechtenstein politician ( FBP ). She has been a member of the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein since November 11, 2019 . As a member of the government, she is responsible for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Justice and Culture .

education and profession

As the child of a Swiss father and a Liechtenstein mother, Katrin Eggenberger has dual Liechtenstein-Swiss citizenship , and was born in Werdenberg in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen , not far from the Liechtenstein border . She then went to primary schools in Switzerland before she went to the University of Liechtenstein to study for a bachelor's and master's degree . From 2003 to 2008, she initially completed a bachelor's degree with a specialization in financial services and then a master's degree with a specialization in banking and financial management, which she completed in 2012.

In addition to her studies, she worked at LGT Bank in Liechtenstein from 2002 to 2003 , from 2004 to 2008 at VP Bank also in the Principality of Liechtenstein, and in 2008 became a member of the management of the Notenstein Private Bank in St. Gallen . In 2014 she returned to academic teaching and took up a doctorate in political science at the University of St. Gallen . At the same time, she began extensive research activities at the London School of Economics and Political Science , at the University of Cambridge and, in 2015, as a visiting researcher at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University and at the Liechtenstein Institute on Self- Determination of Princeton University . Her doctoral thesis , submitted in 2019 and supervised by Nobel Prize winner Joseph E. Stiglitz , was entitled “Solving Cooperation Problems over International Taxation: Power, Legitimacy and Sovereignty” . Thus it was in 2019 for Doctor of Political Sciences ( Dr. rer. Publ. HSG ) at the University of St. Gallen doctorate .

From 2016 she also worked as a personal assistant to World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab and was chair of the Community of Chairpersons of the World Economic Forum, which includes over a hundred chairmen of global companies.

Political career

Following the withdrawal of trust in Aurelia Frick , the previous FBP government councilor, by the Liechtenstein State Parliament on July 2, 2019, the leadership of the Progressive Citizens' Party was looking for a successor to Frick as Foreign, Justice and Culture Minister. On September 3, the FBP party executive nominated Katrin Eggenberger, who had not been politically active in any party until then, as a new councilor. On November 6, 2019, Eggenberger was elected as a new member of the government by the state parliament with 18 votes, appointed by Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein as a member of the government on November 11 and sworn in as such by Prime Minister Adrian Hasler on the same day . In the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein, she assumes responsibility for the foreign affairs, justice and culture departments.
