The University of Liechtenstein is a state university specializing in architecture and spatial development and economics ( entrepreneurship , finance, business informatics, business law). It is based in Vaduz in the Principality of Liechtenstein . The content focus is based on the needs of the economy, politics and society of Liechtenstein as well as the neighboring region ( Alpine Rhine Valley , Lake Constance).

history

The forerunner is the evening technical center Vaduz, founded in 1961 on the initiative of business and the state . In 1988 the Liechtenstein Engineering School (LIS) emerged from the evening technical center . In 1992 the LIS was recognized as a university of applied sciences . In 1997 the LIS was converted to the Liechtenstein University of Applied Sciences as a foundation under public law and in 2005 it was converted to the Liechtenstein University of Applied Sciences . In July 2008, the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein approved the implementation of doctoral programs ( doctorate law ).

The official transition to the "University of Liechtenstein" took place on February 1, 2011 on the basis of the law on the University of Liechtenstein passed by the State Parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein (November 25, 2010), after the body for accreditation and quality assurance of Swiss universities (OAQ) has confirmed compliance with the quality guidelines of the Swiss University Conference (SUK) on the basis of an extensive evaluation . The sponsors are the state and business organizations. Around 800 students are enrolled in the bachelor's, master's, doctoral and continuing education programs. Students and lecturers from over 40 countries make the campus an international place of study in the Liechtenstein business and financial center.

The University of Liechtenstein took first place in the 2017 Swiss education ranking in the "Universities" category.

Institutes and affiliated institutes

Five institutes are located at the University of Liechtenstein, which represent the university's research centers:

  • Architecture and spatial development

  • Commercial law

In 2003, the KMU Zentrum started work as the first affiliated institute and in 2004 the KOFL - Liechtenstein Business Cycle Research Center was opened as a further affiliated institute. The SME center offers services (coaching, business plan competition) and seminars and courses for small and medium-sized companies.

Bachelor, master and doctoral programs

The diplomas are recognized by the state and meet the EU directives on the mutual recognition of diplomas, examination requirements and other qualifications.

Bachelor courses

The bachelor's degree programs last at least six semesters (180 ECTS ). Bachelor courses are offered in the fields of architecture (BSc Arch.) And business administration (BSc).

Masters courses

The master’s courses (MSc) last at least four semesters (120 ECTS). Masters courses are offered for the areas

  • Architecture (MSc Arch.),
  • Finance (MSc),
  • Information Systems (MSc),
  • Entrepreneurship (MSc).

PhD courses

The doctorate can be obtained in the third cycle of studies (at least three years). There are courses available in the areas of architecture and spatial development as well as economics.

research

The legal mandate and the international university standards require the University of Liechtenstein to conduct research. In addition to training and further education, research forms the second pillar of the university. Under the motto Local Orientation - International Embedding , the University of Liechtenstein sees its primary task in positively influencing the economic and social development of Liechtenstein and successfully embedding the existing research know-how in the emerging European research area. Research should ensure the transfer of the latest knowledge into teaching and practice. The main research areas are:

  • Architecture: sustainable building, architecture and theory, sustainable spatial development
  • Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurial learning, team learning, entrepreneurial marketing, innovation management, international and strategic management, knowledge work and management as well as family businesses
  • Finance: Banking and Finance, International Taxation, Corporate Taxation, Wealth Planning
  • Business Informatics: Digital Innovation, Process Management, Sustainably Digital, Content Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, Big Data Analytics, Culture Assessment and Digital Nudging
  • Commercial law: company, foundation and trust law as well as banking and financial market law

Knowledge and technology transfer

Research as well as knowledge and technology transfer are part of the legal mandate of the University of Liechtenstein. They are closely related to teaching and complement it. The latest level of knowledge and problem-solving skills are conveyed on the basis of practical projects. The economy also needs the research capacity of the university. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular, which do not have their own R&D resources, have a need for offers from the fields of applied research and development. These services are provided by the institutes and affiliated institutes.

tuition fee

The tuition fees in the bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs are 950 Swiss francs for EU / EEA and Swiss citizens and 1250 Swiss francs for other citizens per semester. Visiting students as part of exchange programs ( Erasmus programs ) do not pay any tuition fees.
