Ulrike Baumöl is a professor at the University of Liechtenstein .

Career

Ulrike Baumöl studied business administration at the University of Dortmund from 1987 to 1992 and then received her doctorate there in 1998 with Thomas Reichmann with a dissertation on the subject of "Efficient software development - a controlling concept and instrumental design for application software development". From 1999 to 2002 she was the director of the Executive Master of Business Administration in Business Engineering (EMBE) at the University of St. Gallen. In 2002 she was a visiting researcher in the “Society and Technology” research group at DaimlerChrysler AG in Berlin. In 2003 she was a visiting scholar at the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University and a visiting professor at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley . With a postdoctoral thesis on "Situational Methods Construction for organizational change - Development of methods design method based on a classification theory for change projects" was her in the summer of 2004 at the University of St. Gallen , the instructor awarded for Business Administration, in particular economic computer science. From 2004 to 2006 she was application architect for the finance, risk and asset management systems in IT at Swiss Life and responsible for project portfolio management in this area. In 2006 she followed the reputation as a university professor at the University of Hagen and was until 2019 the owner of the Department of Business Administration, esp. Information Management (B * IMA).

The focus of the teaching and research of Ulrike Baumöl is the environment of "Business-IT-Alignment". This is based on business engineering as an interdisciplinary approach to method-based coordination of corporate management and information technology. The main subject areas of her research are

  • Decision support in the sense of "Intelligent Decision Support" with a focus on reference modeling and intelligent systems
  • Information and communication management in distributed organizations
  • Method construction for business engineering projects

Baumöl is co-editor of the trade journal “Controlling” and founded the IT consulting company IARDA GmbH together with Reinhard Jung, a professor at the University of St. Gallen, during her time at the University of St. Gallen. Baumöl has been Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Fernuniversität Hagen since October 2016.
