Hereditary Prince Alois Philipp Maria von und zu Liechtenstein, Count zu Rietberg (born June 11, 1968 in Zurich ) is acting deputy to the Prince of Liechtenstein and heir to the throne . The official title of the Hereditary Prince is His Highness (S. D.) Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein.

Life

childhood and education

Hereditary Prince Alois is the eldest son of Prince Hans-Adam II (* 1945) and Princess Marie . He grew up in Vaduz Castle . Like his father, he attended primary school in Vaduz and graduated from high school with the Matura . He then completed an officer training course at the Sandhurst Military Academy , Great Britain . After his certification as Second Lieutenant, he served for six months with the Coldstream Guards in Hong Kong and London . He then studied law at the University of Salzburg and graduated in 1993 with a master's degree. From September 1993 to May 1996 he worked for an accounting firm in London.

On July 3, 1993, in the Catholic cathedral and parish church of St. Florin in Vaduz , he married Sophie Duchess in Bavaria, born in 1967 (according to protocol, Princess of Bavaria, Duchess in Bavaria ), daughter of Max Emanuel Herzog in Bavaria and niece of the current head of the Wittelsbach family Franz Duke of Bavaria .

The marriage had four children:

Alois' fifth cousin, Prince Stefan of Liechtenstein , was Liechtenstein's ambassador in Berlin .

Official duties

After he returned to Vaduz in 1996, Hereditary Prince Alois managed the princely private fortune. On August 16, 2004 he took over the affairs of state as the acting deputy of the sovereign.

Title, salutation and coat of arms

The full title of the Hereditary Prince according to the Liechtenstein House Law is Hereditary Prince von und zu Liechtenstein , Graf zu Rietberg .

All members of the Princely House of Liechtenstein are salutated with your highness and bear the coat of arms of the Princely Family.

Deviating from the house law, his wife has the courtesy salutation Her Royal Highness (written form IKH ), as she comes from the formerly ruling royal house of Wittelsbach (Kings of Bavaria, 1806-1918) and is therefore of a higher rank in terms of protocol .
