Michaela Geiger , b. Rall (born September 29, 1943 in Oberammergau , † December 30, 1998 in Munich ), was a German politician ( CSU ).

She was Parliamentary State Secretary from 1991 to 1997 and Vice-President of the German Bundestag from 1997 to 1998 .

Life and work

Geiger attended the St. Irmengard School from 1954 to 1960. After graduating from high school in 1963 at Werdenfels-Gymnasium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Michaela Geiger completed specialist training as a television image technician in Nuremberg and worked for Bavarian television in Munich from 1964 to 1967 . After that she worked as a housewife and as an employee in her husband's company until 1980 .

Michaela Geiger was divorced and had a son. She was the daughter of the Knight's Cross holder Carl Rall.

Political party

Since 1971 she was a member of the CSU. From 1975 she was a member of the CSU district executive in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , from 1977 she was deputy chairwoman of the CSU district association in Upper Bavaria and since 1987 a member of the CSU state executive.

MPs

From 1978 to 1981 she was a market councilor in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and a member of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district council .

From 1980 until her death she was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1987 to 1991 she was chairwoman of the foreign policy working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

On January 16, 1997 she was elected Vice President of the German Bundestag . After the 1998 Bundestag election , she resigned from this office on October 26, 1998.

From November 1998 until her death from cancer on December 30, 1998, she was Deputy Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Michaela Geiger was last (14th electoral period [1998]) with 58.0% of the votes directly elected member of the constituency of Weilheim .

Public offices

After the general election in 1990 , she was on 24 January 1991 as the Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation in by Chancellor Helmut Kohl led government appointed. From January 22, 1993 to January 16, 1997, she then held the same position at the Federal Minister of Defense .
