Eduard Oswald (born September 6, 1947 in Augsburg ) is a German politician ( CSU ). From March 23, 2011 to October 22, 2013 he was Vice President of the German Bundestag.

Life and work

Eduard Oswald grew up in Leitershofen and, after attending business school, began training as a retail salesman in 1964. From 1968 he completed a degree in business administration in Munich , which he completed in 1971 with a degree in business administration (FH). From 1971 to 1974 this was followed by studies for teaching at primary and secondary schools. From 1974 to 1978 he worked as a secondary school teacher.

On June 7, 2016, Oswald took over the presidency of the transport infrastructure association Pro Mobility .

Eduard Oswald is married, has two children and lives in Dinkelscherben near Augsburg.

Political party

Oswald joined the CSU in 1966. Since 1972 he has been a member of the CSU district board of Swabia , from 1989 as deputy district chairman. Eduard Oswald has been honorary chairman of the CSU in the Augsburg district since 2005.

Oswald was a member of the Augsburg district council from 1972 to 1998 and of the Bavarian state parliament from 1978 to 1986 .

From 1987 to 2013 Oswald was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1992 to 1998 he was parliamentary manager of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group . From 1998 to 2005 he was chairman of the Bundestag committee for transport, building and housing and from November 2005 to 2009 of the finance committee . From November 2009 to March 2011, Oswald was Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on Economics and Technology. On March 23, 2011, Oswald was elected Vice President of the Bundestag with 504 of 570 votes cast. He held the office until he left parliament.

Eduard Oswald has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Augsburg-Land constituency . Most recently, he received 53.0% of the first votes in the 2009 Bundestag election . He did not run for the 2013 federal election .

Oswald is a member of the Europa-Union parliamentary group of the German Bundestag .

Public offices

On January 14, 1998, he was appointed Federal Minister for Regional Planning, Building and Urban Development in the Federal Government led by Chancellor Helmut Kohl . After the Bundestag election in 1998 , he left the government on October 26, 1998.
