Johann Joachim Borchert (born April 25, 1940 in Nahrstedt , Stendal district ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1993 to 1998 he was Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests .

Life and work

Jochen Borchert was born in Nahrstedt near Stendal , Altmark, the son of a farmer. In 1953 his family fled to the West. After completing secondary school , Borchert completed an agricultural apprenticeship from 1957 to 1959 and then attended the engineering school for agriculture in Soest from 1960 to 1961 , where he graduated as an agricultural engineer. In 1970 he took over his parents' lease business in Wattenscheid and also began studying economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum , which he completed in 1974 with a degree in economics.

Borchert was President of the German Hunting Protection Association (DJV) and Chairman of the Directorate for Thoroughbred Breeding and Races eV Cologne. Currently he is still Honorary President of the NRW Foundation and Chairman of the Natur + Mensch hunting foundation . He is on the supervisory boards of Dolff-Beteiligungs AG, Düsseldorf (chairman), the Agricultural Insurance Association Münster a. G. (Chairman), LVM-Krankenversicherungs-AG, Münster (Chairman), LVM-Lebensversicherungs-AG (Chairman) and LVM-Pensionsfonds-AG. Borchert is honorary 'old man' at the Academic Hunting Association Hubertia Ruhr zu Bochum in the WJSC .

Jochen Borchert is married and has two children. His wife Ingrid Borchert is a member of the Bochum City Council. His daughter is the journalist Katharina Borchert .

Political career

Borchert has been a member of the CDU since 1965. From 1977 to 2000 he was chairman of the CDU district association in Bochum and has been its honorary chairman since 2000. From 1976 to 1981 Borchert was a member of the Bochum City Council. From 1980 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag . Jochen Borchert has always entered the German Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1989 to 1993 he was budget spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

On 21 January 1993 Borchert was as Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forestry in by Chancellor Helmut Kohl led government appointed, where he remained for two terms ( Fourth Kohl cabinet / cabinet Kohl V ). After the 1998 Bundestag election , he left the federal government on October 26, 1998. In addition, from 1993 to 2003 he was federal chairman of the Evangelical Working Group of the CDU / CSU .

Jochen Borchert was the only MP from the ranks of the CDU / CSU who voted against the Access Barrier Act , which was passed in the Bundestag on June 18, 2009 with the votes of the coalition parties.

During his time as minister in 1993, he sponsored the thick oak tree in the Kottenforst near Bonn.
