Michael Carl Werner Schwarz (born January 21, 1900 in Hamburg ; † September 2, 1982 at Gut Frauenholz near Bad Oldesloe ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1959 to 1965 he was Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry .

Life and work

Werner Schwarz was born in 1900 as the son of a businessman in Hamburg-Uhlenhorst . After attending grammar school in Hamburg-Bergedorf , he went to business school in Hamburg in 1917. In 1918 he took part in the First World War as a soldier . He then graduated from 1918 to 1922 agricultural training and studied from 1922 to 1925 Agriculture . Since 1926 he has been an independent farmer at Gut Frauenholz. From 1948 to 1959 Werner Schwarz was second state chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Farmers 'Association and at the same time a member of the Presidium of the German Farmers' Association.

Werner Schwarz is the father of the Schleswig-Holstein State Minister Henning Schwarz , who was Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein in 1987/1988 and thus the grandfather of the Minister for Justice, Europe, Consumer Protection and Equality of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, Sabine Sütterlin-Waack . Via another son Günther (1928–2014), who was mayor of the municipality of Rethwisch (Stormarn) from 1987 to 1994 , he is the grandfather of the incumbent Vice President of the German Farmers' Association Werner Schwarz.

Political party

Schwarz had been a member of the CDU since 1952.

MP

From 1953 to 1965, Schwarz was a member of the German Bundestag . He has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Stormarn constituency .

After Heinrich Lübke was elected Federal President , Schwarz was appointed Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests on October 14, 1959 in the Federal Government led by Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer . He initially retained this office under Federal Chancellor Ludwig Erhard and then resigned from the Federal Government on October 26, 1965 after the federal election in 1965 .
