The first cabinet of Federal Chancellor Ludwig Erhard came into office after the election of the Chancellor on October 17, 1963. Two days earlier, Chancellor Konrad Adenauer had resigned from his office. In April, the CDU had already chosen Ludwig Erhard - despite the quarrels between Adenauer and Erhard - as his successor.
