After the federal election in 1965 , Chancellor Erhard formed his second cabinet. Cabinet formation was hampered by the Huyn affair . A year later, the coalition fell into a serious crisis. On October 27, 1966, the FDP ministers resigned. The Union then nominated Kurt Georg Kiesinger, a new candidate for chancellor, on November 10, 1966 . The renewed coalition negotiations with the FDP failed. Parts of the FDP were more in favor of a coalition with the SPD. Ludwig Erhard resigned on November 30, 1966.
