The Merkel II cabinet was the German federal government in office from October 28, 2009, the day she was sworn in, until December 17, 2013 during the 17th legislative period of the German Bundestag . The cabinet of the black-yellow coalition of CDU , CSU and FDP was presented to the public on October 23 and 24, 2009; it was the 22nd cabinet of the Federal Republic of Germany. On October 22, 2013, the federal government was dismissed by Federal President Joachim Gauck , but remained - as long as none before - until the appointment of the new government.

Changes
The first cabinet reshuffle took place on November 30, 2009. Franz Josef Jung , still Defense Minister in the Merkel I cabinet , announced his resignation on November 27th as a consequence of the information policy in connection with the controversial air attack on two tankers near Kunduz on September 4th, 2009. Rösler's successor as Minister of Health was his previous Parliamentary State Secretary Daniel Bahr , chairman of the North Rhine-Westphalian FDP . On May 16, 2012, the Federal Chancellor proposed to the Federal President that Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen be dismissed in accordance with Article 64 of the Basic Law. On May 22, 2012, Röttgen was dismissed and the previous First Parliamentary Director of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, Peter Altmaier, was appointed as the new Environment Minister.
After the dean of the Philosophical Faculty of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf announced the decision on February 5, 2013 to revoke the doctoral degree from Annette Schavan because of plagiarism, the Minister of Education declared on February 9, 2013 after increasing media and political issues Pressure her resignation.
