Thomas Kossendey
Thomas Kossendey (born March 4, 1948 in Berlin ) is a German politician ( CDU ).
From 2006 to 2013 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of Defense.
Life and work
After graduating from high school in 1967, Kossendey did military service and then completed a degree in law and political science at the University of Cologne and the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster , which he completed with the first state examination in law. After completing his legal clerkship , he also passed the second state examination in 1979 and joined the administration of the State of Lower Saxony in 1980 , where he last headed the ministerial office in the Ministry of Education as government director.
Thomas Kossendey is Roman Catholic , married and has one son. He lives with his family in the community of Edewecht near Oldenburg .
Political party
Kossendey joined the CDU and the Young Union (JU) in 1971 and was chairman of the JU regional association in Oldenburg from 1974 to 1980. From 1993 to 2003 he was chairman of the CDU district association Ammerland .
MP
From 1987 to 2013 Kossendey was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1998 to 2006 he was deputy chairman of the Defense Committee and since 2006 he has been chairman of the German- Turkish parliamentary group .
Thomas Kossendey always entered the Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list until he won the direct mandate in the Oldenburg - Ammerland constituency in the 2009 Bundestag election . He did not run for the 2013 federal election .
Public offices
On October 27, 2006, Kossendey was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense . In this office he succeeded Friedbert Pflüger , who had switched to Berlin state politics as leader of the opposition. On December 17, 2013 Thomas Kossendey was retired by Thomas de Maizière.
