Jan Mücke (born November 18, 1973 in Dresden ) is a German politician ( FDP ) and lobbyist for the tobacco industry . From 2005 to 2009 he was Parliamentary Managing Director of the FDP parliamentary group and from 2009 to October 2013 Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Transport, Building and Urban Development . Since July 2014 he has been managing director and spokesman for the German Cigarette Association and, since September 2019, managing director of the Federal Association of the Tobacco Industry and Novel Products .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1992 at Luisenstift in Radebeul , Mücke was a temporary soldier in the armed forces . In 1994 he began to study law at the Technical University of Dresden , but did not complete it. He has been working as an independent property manager since 1996.

From 2004 to 2005 he was managing director of the FDP parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament .

Mücke has been the managing director of the German Cigarette Association since July 1, 2014 , although this was only announced in early September 2014. According to the Sächsischer Zeitung, it is not clear why this announcement was made after the state elections in Saxony . Mücke is the DZV's representative for relations with the European Union . Since September 2, 2019, Mücke has been the managing director of the Federal Association of the Tobacco Industry and New Products, which was newly founded at that time .

He lives in Radebeul in a steady relationship with his friend.

Political career

As a pupil, Mücke became a member of the Young Liberal Action Saxony in 1991 . From 1999 to 2000 he was the Federal Treasurer of the Young Liberals .

He has been a member of the FDP since 1993. From 1999 to 2009 he was deputy chairman of the FDP district association in Dresden, and since then he has been chairman of the district association of Meißen. From 2000 to 2003 and 2005 to 2007 he was a member of the FDP regional executive committee of Saxony. From 2000 to 2003 and from 2007 to 2015 he was a member of the FDP federal executive committee .

From 1996 until his appointment as Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development in October 2009, he was a member of the Dresden City Council . Here he was chairman of the FDP / DSU / FB parliamentary group from 1999 to 2002 and chairman of the FDP parliamentary group from June 2004 until his voluntary resignation from the city council in autumn 2009.

From 2005 to 2013 Mücke was a member of the German Bundestag . From then until 2009 he was Parliamentary Managing Director of the FDP parliamentary group and spokesman for infrastructure and aviation. Jan Mücke moved into the Bundestag in 2009 as the top candidate of the FDP Saxony via position 1 on the Saxony state list. In 2009 his constituency was Dresden II - Bautzen II .

From 2009 to 2013 Mücke was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development . After losing the Bundestag election in September 2013 , he initially held the office of executive director. In press reports he was accused of neglecting his official duties during this period. Mücke publicly protested against this accusation, his presentation was confirmed by the responsible Federal Minister Peter Ramsauer .

In the 2013 federal election, Mücke received 2.4% of the vote as a direct candidate in the Meißen constituency. Although it was in first place on the FDP's state list, Mücke missed entry into the Bundestag because the FDP failed to pass the 5% hurdle with 4.8% of the vote.

Mücke was a member of the city council for the FDP in Radebeul.
