The German Cigarette Association ( DZV ) is an interest group of cigarette manufacturers founded in Germany in March 2008 and is based in Berlin . It was re-launched on March 14, 2008 by five of the seven member companies of the Association of the Cigarette Industry (VdC). The first chairman has been Ralf Wittenberg, CEO of British American Tobacco , since April 2014 . Marianne Tritz was appointed as the first managing director , who until then had been an executive officer in the Bundestag office of the parliamentary group leader of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen , Fritz Kuhn , and who was previously a member of this parliamentary group in the Bundestag .

On October 30, 2012, the association surprisingly split from Marianne Tritz. The reason given was a necessary new beginning. The management was taken over by Dirk Pangritz. Henning Finck was another managing director from June 1, 2013 to January 31, 2014; the employment relationship was terminated by mutual agreement. On July 1st, 2014 Jan Mücke took over the management from Dirk Pangritz. Head of the 'Product Regulation' department is Wolf-Dieter Heller, who has already dealt scientifically with tobacco and also works at the Institute for Economic Theory and Statistics - Chair of Statistics, Econometrics and Mathematical Finance - in Karlsruhe.

The VdC decided to dissolve it on June 29, 2007 after the German market leader Philip Morris (around 37% market share) had surprisingly left the VdC a few weeks earlier . Despite only seven members, the VdC was one of the most influential lobby associations in Germany. He had relationships with all ministries and subordinate federal authorities that were important to him.

Member companies

The five member companies represent around 60 percent of the German cigarette market:

tasks and goals

The DZV sees itself as the central point of contact for politics, business and the media on all aspects of smoking and cigarettes. He also sees himself as a representative of the interests of around 20 million consumers of tobacco products. Under the motto “Pleasure needs responsibility”, he claims to attempt the balancing act between advertising the addictive substance “cigarette” and discussing responsibility for health and youth. As before the VdC, the DZV is to lobby for the tobacco and cigarette industry . Regulations and restrictions in relation to tobacco consumption and smoking should be prevented or at least weakened.

Partner associations

The DZV and all partner associations are entered in the public list of the registration of associations and their representatives , the lobby list , at the German Bundestag.
