Eckart of Klaeden
Eckart Peter Hans von Klaeden (born November 18, 1965 in Hanover ) is a German lawyer , lobbyist and former politician ( CDU ). He is head of the Politics and External Relations department at Daimler AG .
Life
Origin, education and profession
Eckart von Klaeden was born in Hanover as the son of a pastor and a social worker. The von Klaeden family belonged to the Altmark Junkerstand as early as the early modern times - their place of origin is now a district of the town of Bismark (Altmark) - so they are not a person, but an “old” nobility. They had been based in Gohre in the Altmark since 1620 . After graduating from the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hanover in 1985, he did his military service from 1985 to 1987 as a reserve officer candidate with the Panzerlehrbataillon 334 in Celle-Scheuen. He went through his training a. a. at the armored troop school in Munster . After being promoted to captain of the reserve, he changed the armed forces and now holds the rank of corvette captain of the reserve.
From 1987 he completed a law degree at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and the Georg-August University of Göttingen , which he completed in 1993 with the first state examination in law. The clerkship he finished in 1996 with the Second State Examination. He has since been admitted to the bar.
On November 1, 2013, he succeeded Martin Jäger as Head of Politics and External Relations at Daimler AG .
Party career
Von Klaeden has been a member of the Junge Union and the CDU since 1983 . From 1983 to 1985 he was state chairman of the Lower Saxony Schools Union. From 1987 to 1992 he was a member of the JU federal executive board and from 1992 to 1995 he was JU state chairman in Lower Saxony . From 1995 to 2013 von Klaeden was chairman of the CDU district association Hildesheim and had been a member of the CDU federal executive committee since 2004 . On November 27, 2006, he was elected Federal Treasurer of the CDU. In November 2010 he gave up this office and was elected a member of the presidium at the 23rd party congress . On November 11, 2013 von Klaeden resigned from the CDU Presidium. On December 8, 2013, it became known that Berenberg Bank paid EUR 15,000 to the CDU district association in Hildesheim in August of the same year and that von Klaeden gave a speech a few weeks later at a bank congress in Munich and then attended the Oktoberfest at their invitation .
Member of Parliament
From 1994 to 2013 von Klaeden was a member of the German Bundestag . From 2000 to 2005 he was parliamentary managing director of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group . In 2005 he was chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the visa investigation committee . From 2005 to 2009 he was Chairman of the Working Group Foreign and therefore foreign policy spokesman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. He was a member of the Europa-Union parliamentary group of the German Bundestag .
Since his first election in 1994, Eckart von Klaeden has always entered the Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list. He had applied as a direct candidate in the Hildesheim constituency , but was always subject to the respective SPD candidate , most recently Bernhard Brinkmann . On May 28, 2013, it was announced that he would not run for the Bundestag again in the 2013 Bundestag election and would move to Daimler AG at the end of 2013.
Public offices
On October 28, 2009, von Klaeden was appointed Minister of State of the Federal Chancellery by Chancellor Angela Merkel as the Federal Government's coordinator for the reduction of bureaucracy and better regulation (corresponds to a parliamentary state secretary) after Peter Hintze , who was previously designated for this office, asked to remain in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Law Technology had asked. Due to the circumstances of his move from the Federal Chancellery to Daimler AG, the Berlin public prosecutor initiated an investigation against von Klaeden because of the initial suspicion of accepting benefits . These proceedings were discontinued on January 26, 2015 by the Berlin public prosecutor's office.
As a lobbyist
According to information from Spiegel about the emissions scandal , Von Klaeden turned to the head of the economic policy department in the Chancellery in March 2015 to object to the RDE test procedure planned by the EU Commission .
Personal
Von Klaeden is a Protestant , married and has three daughters. He is the brother of Dietrich von Klaeden and brother-in-law of Sandra von Klaeden .

From 2005 to 2011 he was a member of the Presidium of the German Evangelical Church Congress .
He is a member of the board of directors of Atlantik-Brücke and a member of the advisory board of the Atlantic Initiative .
