Gymnastics association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A student or academic gymnastics association is a special category of student associations that emerged from the older academic gymnastics clubs in the course of the 19th century and, like them, are particularly dedicated to the maintenance of sport ("gymnastics" as a former generic term for sport in general).

In contrast to the academic gymnastics associations, the majority of the student gymnastics associations are mandatory and all of them are colored . A few gymnastics associations have only been optional since the 1970s , that is, they give their members the choice of the scale .

Before the Second World War, the umbrella organization of the academic gymnastics associations was the Representative Convent (VC). In 1950 the former VC connections merged with the umbrella organization of the academic country teams to form the Coburg Convent (CC). The majority of the academic gymnastics associations still belong to it today. Some optional gymnastics associations separated from the CC in the 1970s and merged into the Marburg Convention (MK). A third group does not belong to either of the two associations.

The Academic Turnerschaften of Switzerland in the Swiss Academic Turnerschaft combines (SAT). After the suspension of the two French gymnastics associations (Rhodania Geneva and Jurassia Lausanne), the SAT consists only of the Academic Gymnastics Association Alemannia Basel , the Academic Gymnastics Association Rhenania Bern and the Academic Gymnastics Association Utonia Zurich .
