The Marburg Convention of Student Associations (MK) is a corporation association of facultative gymnastics associations . It consists of six student associations based in Hanover (3), Braunschweig , Bonn and Berlin .

history

The MK was initially formed under the name Marburger Kreis within the Coburg Convent (CC) as a relaxed discussion group of gymnastics associations (and initially also some country teams ), which brought together the endeavor to realize the sports principle of the association more strongly, fencing as a possible alternative among others To ask types of sport and to leave the decision on the question of the compulsory size to the individual leagues.

When, at Pentecost 1971, the vast majority of the CC groups insisted on maintaining the compulsory graduation ( see also: Mensur (student union) #Student Movement ), the dissenting groups left the CC in the course of the next few months. 13 of them formed a new association on November 6, 1971 at the house of the Philippina Gymnastics Association in Marburg , along with the following principles:

  • Life commitment to the federal government (life covenant principle),
  • Democratic order of federal life (Convent principle)
  • Promotion of the attitude and commitment of the individual members in the federal government, in the university, in the profession and in society (personality principle)
  • Affirmation of basic constitutional rights and the democratic and social rule of law
  • Use of connecting colors as an expression of inner and outer togetherness (color principle) and
  • Maintenance of physical exercises (sport principle).

In 1972/73 the name Marburg Convent was adopted , since Whitsun 1975 the official name has been Marburg Convent of Student Associations . In the 1990s the Marburg Convention had around 2500 members (370 active members , 2127 old men ).

Until 2007 the MK was a member of the Convent of German Corporations Associations (CDK).
