Ludwig Elm (born August 10, 1934 in Greußen ) is a former German politician ( SED , PDS ). Until 1990 he was a university professor for Scientific Socialism .

Life and work

After attending school, Elm first completed an apprenticeship as an agricultural assistant. He then studied agriculture , history and philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin and the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . In 1956 he finished his studies as a graduate teacher for Marxism-Leninism . He then worked as a research assistant at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , where he also worked in 1964 with the work “On the History of Left Liberalism in the Early Period of German Imperialism (1897/98 to 1907) - A Contribution to the Development and Crisis of Liberalism in Germany " for Dr. phil. received his doctorate. In 1971 his doctorate B to Dr. sc. phil. with the work "University and Neo-Fascism - Contemporary History Studies on University Policy in the FRG" . He then worked at the university until 1990 as a professor of scientific socialism . From 1990 to 1991 the department he headed was called “Comparative History of Ideas”.

Ludwig Elm is married and has three daughters.

Political party

Elm joined the SED in 1952. From 1964 to 1978 he was a member of the SED party leadership at the University of Jena and from 1967 to 1978 of the SED district leadership of the city of Jena . After the renaming, he remained a member of the PDS.

MP

Elm was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR from 1971 to 1981 and belonged there to the parliamentary group of the Kulturbund .

From 1994 to 1998 he was a member of the German Bundestag and during this time headed Working Group IV Internal, Legal, Foreigners, Science and Education Policy of the PDS group.

Ludwig Elm was drawn into the Bundestag via the Thuringian state list.

Social offices

From 1958 to 1990, Elm was primarily involved in the GDR cultural association, where he held various functions at the district, district and central level. In 1994 he was elected first state spokesman for the Association of Antifascists (BdA) in Thuringia.
