The beginnings

On June 6, 1880 the Academic Gymnastics Club Philippina was founded in the Turnergarten in Marburg. § 1 of the statutes read: The Academic Gymnastics Club Philippina, founded in Marburg on June 6th, 1880, aims to stimulate and maintain the youthful freshness of student life mainly through physical exercise. The colors were pink-white-moss green and the motto Sana mens in corpore sano (lat. "A healthy mind in a healthy body."). University rector Ludwig Enneccerus allowed the pink-white-moss-green ribbon and hat to be worn in public in 1881 .

In December 1880 the Philippina was accepted into the Cartell Association of Academic Gymnastics Associations (CV) , which the Philippina chaired from 1893 to 1896. The " unconditional satisfaction " of all members was de facto introduced, de jure there was a court of honor consisting of five members.

The members first met in various pubs, including the restaurant Zum akademischen father-in-law . Later the Schützenpfuhl ( old inn on the Lahn ) was the meeting place for over 25 years. Moritz Lederer was an ex-pub and morning pint from 1882 to 1922 .

The umbrella organization has since changed its name to the Representative Convent (VC). Even after 1896, the Philippina held the chair several times: 1901-04, 1913-16, 1920-22 and 1927-29. At the end of the chairmanship in 1896, Philippina succeeded in renaming the Academic Gymnastics Associations in the VC to be able to differentiate themselves better from the non-defeating Academic Gymnastics Associations.

The early 20th century

In 1903 the first Alte-Herren-Zeitung appeared in order to intensify the contacts between Alten Herren and Aktivitas . The foundation stone for the Philippine House was laid in the summer semester of 1906. The house at Lutherstrasse 21 was inaugurated in the summer of 1907.

The Philippina, through its federal brother Neumann, played a key role in bringing about the Marburg Agreement of 1911. On July 26, 1912, the Blue Ring was founded with other gymnastics associations (Eberhardina Tübingen, Ghilbellina Munich, Markomanno-Albertia Freiburg, Rhenopalatia Heidelberg, Suevia Breslau ) to represent common interests in the VC.

In August 1914 there was a temporary suspension, but the Philippina was reactivated again in the summer semester of 1915. In May 1929 the 400th Philippians became active.

The sailing training ship Niobe sank off Fehmarn on July 26, 1932. Federal brother Richard Sander, active since 1919, sacrificed his life to save his comrades. Inscription on the memorial plaque in the Philippians' House: "A person's worth is determined by the size of his sacrifice."

The 43-year-old couleur servant Schepp died in May 1933 while bandaging a drumstick. Due to National Socialist tendencies, the Philippina left the VC on November 14, 1934. In November 1935, Philippina was again suspended after the SA occupied the house; on April 12, 1939, the active alliance was re-established as the Comradeship Richard Sander.

After the Second World War

In January 1950, the house (previously under American use) was rented by the trustee appointed in the meantime and in 1953 the L! Rhenania zu Jena and Marburg temporarily granted hospitality rights in the cellar. With the active support of AH Vogelsang, the federal government was rebuilt on April 22, 1950. Since the summer semester of 1955, the federal government has been called the Philippina Gymnastics Association again.

On July 14, 1957, Philippina took over the presidency of the Coburg Convent , which she had since joined. In May 1958 the Blue Ring was re-established on the Philippine House and on June 21, 1969, the decision was made to abolish the compulsory censorship , which made it inevitable to leave the Coburg Convent.

In October 1970 the forerunner of the Marburg convent was founded on the Philippine House, 1986–1987 the Philippina provided the presidium in the Marburg convent (MK). In the summer semester of 1996, however, he left the MK.

On May 1, 2004 it was finally merged with the gymnastics club Saxonia to form the gymnastics club Philippina-Saxonia.

History of the Saxonia gymnastics club

Stairway on Lutherstrasse

On July 23, 1886, the Academic Pharmaceuten-Verein Marburg was founded in the Wyck restaurant with the (initially not worn) colors dark blue-white-light blue, by apostates from Pharmacia (today Hasso-Borussia ), as they were weakening the rejected the pharmaceutical principle. Unconditional satisfaction becomes federally compulsory on February 24, 1891, as well as wearing couleur in the form of beer and wine tips in the winter semester 1893/94.

In the winter semester of 1894/95 the name was changed to the Scientific Association Saxonia zu Marburg with the motto: "In Treue fest!", Due to a lack of young people and the abandonment of the pharmaceutical principle. On October 15, 1897, Saxonia became a founding member of the Teutoburg Chargierten-Convent (TCC) , and the name was changed to General-Scientific Association Saxonia . In 1898 the full color and in 1902 the determination censorship was introduced. After leaving the TCC and the abolition of the scientific principle, the name was again changed to Freischlagende connection Saxonia to Marburg . Saxonia reoriented and chose the gymnastics principle as a new direction. Thus, in 1908, Saxonia was accepted into the representative convent, renaming it to gymnastics in VC Saxonia . The house at Lutherstrasse 9 was bought as a connecting house in 1907 (remodeled in 1926).

On February 27, 1915, Saxonia had to be suspended because the entire Aktivitas was in the field. In the summer semester of 1919, the Philippina sent four boys and two foxes to revive Saxonia. In return, Saxonia was the strongest VC Bund in Marburg in the summer semester of 1920 (30 active members). On October 27, 1935, the federal government was suspended again, which was reactivated on May 14, 1938 as Kameradschaft Kärnten . On March 28, 1945 the house was confiscated and used for the hospital administration.

In the summer semester of 1949, Aktivitas was re-established as a gymnastics association for students in Marburg, and in the following semester it was renamed to Gymnastics Saxonia . In July 1951 the house was returned and the entry into the Coburg Convent took place. On November 10, 1956, the old lordship of the gymnastics club in VC Arminia came to casting . In the summer semester of 1994, Saxonia was excluded from the Coburg Convent, because Saxonia had finally accepted members, although they had not achieved the scales required by the Coburg Convent's statutes (violation of the mandatory principle).

In the 1997 summer semester, Philippina once again provided two support lads to keep the active business going. On May 1, 2004, the senior men’s associations of the Philippina gymnastics club and the Saxonia gymnastics club merge to form the Philippina-Saxonia old men’s club. The members of the active federations found the new federation Turnisschaft Philippina-Saxonia.

History of the gymnastics club Arminia Giessen

From the student association to the fraternity

On January 14, 1882, a literary circle was founded by five students from the grammar school in Giessen. From this a Viking League developed in 1883. However, it was to be expected that when members left the gymnasium, it would cease to exist. Thus the Viking League was dissolved and in the SS 1885 the "Literary Association" was founded as a student union. When members of the Neogermania Berlin fraternity and “Auf dem Fürstenkeller” Jena fraternity joined, the principles of the General German Association of Boys (ADB) were adopted. This is how the Arminia Gießen fraternity came into being on November 26th, 1885, which is still regarded as the date of foundation.

Fraternity Arminia Giessen

With the entry into the Allgemeine Deutsche Burschenbund , Vollcouleur was accepted and the colors black-gold-red, as well as the motto: "Freedom, honor, fatherland / forward to goal / upward to truth" were chosen. It was precisely because of the openness to Jewish memberships that the connection grew quickly and in 1891 the old gentlemen's association was founded. However, this increase did not last long and led to the suspension of the Federation between 1896 and 1903 due to a lack of members. The second problem was the dispute on principle with the ADB, as the ADB demanded unconditional satisfaction but refused the determination. So there was another suspension between 1914 and 1918. After the corporation could be resumed in 1919, the house in Schützenstr. 2 bought in Giessen. Since the disputes with the ADB due to the introduction of compulsory censorship , Arminia Gießen entered into a pounding relationship with the Teutonia Frankfurt fraternity in SS 1925 and left the ADB in 1926. However, the fencing opportunities were still too few and so the search for a new umbrella organization began. So the Arminia became "free gymnastics" to enter the representative convent (VC).

Gymnastics Federation Arminia Giessen

Admission to the Representative Convent (VC) took place in 1928 and on June 23, 1928, the Arminia officially appeared for the first time as VC Gymnastics Federation at the Upper Hessian Gymnastics Day in Marburg. It was there that the relationship with the Saxonia gymnastics club became more and more friendly, as they were especially friendly towards the new VC members. In order to avoid liquidation and merging into the NSDStB , Aktivitas was dissolved on October 26, 1935. During the Nazi regime , the Armines took part in Ulrich von Hutten's comradeship at the house of the Frankonia Gießen fraternity. After the Second World War , Gießen was 80% bombed. The Justus Liebig University in Giessen and the Arminenhaus were a heap of rubble. The university was only tentatively renewed and the idea was to move it to the Philipps University of Marburg . For the purpose of reconstituting the Confederation, the remaining old gentlemen met on October 1, 1947. Without activitas and without a house, the friendship with the Saxonia gymnastics association was used to join the Saxonia gymnastics association as an old man's association and thus continue the tradition of the Arminia Gießen gymnastics association. The old gentlemen's association was accepted by the Saxonia gymnastics club on November 10, 1956. The "old armines" were allowed to wear their band concealed under the Saxonia band. Even today, the Philippina-Saxonia gymnastics club celebrates the Arminenkneipe at the end of each winter semester in honor of the Arminia Gießen gymnastics club. Likewise, a traditional game may be struck on the armband. The cellar bar on the Philipperhaus, the so-called Rhenanenkeller, is u. a. adorned with devotional objects from Arminia.

Friendship relationships

From July 24, 1894 to June 24, 1898 there was a cartel of the Philippina with the Germania Bonn gymnastics club .

Color

current color of Philippina-Saxonia

Philippina

The colors of the gymnastics club Philippina pink-white-moss green relate to the colors (red-white-green) of the gymnastics movement of 1881 in a weakened form. The gymnast's cross with the four "F" ( fresh, pious, happy, free ) is still part of the coat of arms to this day. The first pekeschen were pink with white-green strings and a beret with pink-white-moss-green feathers. Later the pekeschen, pub jackets and hats turned dark green. Members who joined Philippina prior to the merger may wear their old ribbon under the new ribbon.

Saxonia

After Pharmacia split off , the colors dark blue-white-light blue were chosen. Due to the similarity with the ribbons of the Hasso-Borussia country team , the ribbons of the members of Saxonia had to be turned. After the introduction of Vollcouleur on April 17, 1898, the first hat was a light blue cloth hat. After a complaint about the similarity of the hats of the Corps Teutonia , a striker was worn as a head color from July 16, 1898 . This was replaced on June 30, 1899 by a light blue silk hat.

Circle of Philippina-Saxonia

Philippina Saxonia

After the merger, they agreed on the color combination pink-white-dark blue. The dark green color of the Philippine hat and Kneip jacket was adopted. Instead, the dark blue pekes from Saxonia were kept for charging. In addition to the hat, it is possible to wear an occiput. The full color includes ribbon, hat / back of the head and pointed collar, which is worn with the suit. The boy band is also pink-white-dark blue with silver percussion and the fuxen band is pink-dark blue. Members who joined prior to the merger are allowed to wear their old ribbon under the new ribbon. The charged persons wear the traditional colors under the Philipper-Saxen-Band to highly official events.
