Bernd-Joachim Hackelöer (born February 23, 1945 in Marburg ) is a German gynecologist .

Life

Hackelöer studied medicine at the Philipps University in Marburg and worked at the women's clinic there between 1971 and 1986. He received his doctorate in 1972, completed his habilitation in 1978 and was appointed professor in 1981 . Between 1972 and 1975 he learned sonography diagnostics from Professor Manfred Hansmann in Bonn and Alfred Kratochwil in Vienna . Together with Hansmann, he succeeded in depicting ovarian follicles . During a research stay in Glasgow in 1977 with Ian Donald , he refined the representation of follicle growth and, together with Hugh Robinson, established standard values ​​for the diameter depending on the menstrual cycle .

He has been Professor of Gynecology in Hamburg since 1986 and Head of Department for Prenatal Diagnostics and Therapy at the Barmbek Teaching Hospital since 1992, and from 2004 to 2012 Chief Physician for Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine at the Asklepios Clinic Barmbek , teaching at the University of Hamburg and the Semmelweis University Budapest ( Asklepios Campus Hamburg ) .

Together with Hansmann, Hackelöer was responsible in 1980 for the introduction of ultrasound screening as part of prenatal care . He was a board member of the most important German specialist societies in gynecology, obstetrics and ultrasound diagnostics ( German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics , German Society for Prenatal Medicine, German Society for Prenatal and Obstetrical Medicine, German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (President)).

Hackelöer is married and has four children. He is a member of the student union Turnerschaft Philippina-Saxonia Marburg.
