Ian Donald

Ian Donald (born December 27, 1910 in Cornwall, Scotland, † June 19, 1987 ) was a British gynecologist. He taught at the University of Glasgow and was Regius Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1954 to 1976 .

Life

In 1958 he laid the foundation for prenatal diagnostics with the first sonographic representation of an unborn child. He developed this application with his colleagues at the Glasgow Royal Maternity Hospital (GRMH) in Glasgow. The results were published on June 7, 1958 in The Lancet under the title Investigation of Abdominal Masses by Pulsed Ultrasound .
