Military career

He was the son of the Württemberg Lieutenant General and Minister of War Theodor von Wundt .

There, Wundt was appointed Portepeef Ensign on May 8, 1876 and promoted to Second Lieutenant on February 5, 1877 . As Prime Lieutenant , Wundt was commanded from November 17, 1888 to March 21, 1891 as an adjutant to the 52nd Infantry Brigade in Ludwigsburg, with his regiments à la suite . Subsequently transferred to the 4th Infantry Regiment No. 122 in Gmünd , Wundt was assigned to the General Staff in Berlin on April 1, 1891 for one year . There since the captain transported Wundt was then a company commander in the 7th Infantry Regiment. 125. With its commanding Prussia followed on 18 June 1895, the transfer to the General Staff. Here, Wundt became major on December 14, 1897 , and from October 8, 1898 he worked for the General Staff of the 36th Division in Danzig . After being released from his command in Prussia, Wundt returned to Württemberg on January 27, 1900 and was appointed battalion commander in 4th Infantry Regiment No. 122. This was followed by a service in the 2nd Infantry Regiment No. 120 in Ulm from January 27, 1903 to April 23, 1904 . Then Wundt was deployed as a lieutenant colonel with the staff of the grenadier regiment "King Karl" No. 123 .

Alpinism

The first trip, financed by his father, took the nineteen-year-old lieutenant to Switzerland, where he discovered his love for the mountains. Theodor Wundt later went on frequent trips and developed a special passion for mountaineering since the 1880s , which took him repeatedly to the Swiss Alps , the High Tatras and, from 1887, to the Dolomites , where he initially tours with the mountain guide Michael Innerkofler ( Kleine Zinne ), but then undertook it alone ( Monte Cristallo , Piz Popena , Cadinspitzen and other mountains that were considered difficult or impossible to climb at the time, which is why the valley residents often doubted the ascent or declared it crazy). On his honeymoon in 1894, he climbed the Matterhorn with his wife, the English Maud Walters, 29 years after Whymper had been the first to climb . His companions were Jeanne Immink , with whom he had previously undertaken tours of the Dolomites, and the mountain guide Johann Niederwieser , known as Stabeler. Wundt was, like Jeanne Immink, one of the pioneers of winter mountaineering and climbed in winter still no small feat, mountains like the Mädelegabel , the Zugspitze , the Große and the Kleine Zinne. Wundt published reports on his mountain tours , including at least one book together with his wife, and was one of the pioneers of high mountain photography . From 1913 onwards, novels and plays by Wundt appeared, most of which had the mountain world as their theme, but were not very successful.
