Richard Lainhart
Richard Lainhart (born February 14, 1953 in Vestal , New York , USA ; † December 30, 2011 ) was an American composer , musician and filmmaker .
Live and act
Lainhart, born in Vestal, New York, in 1953, studied composition at the State University of New York with Joel Chadabe , a pioneer of electroacoustic music. As a composer of avant-garde electronic music, he became known with the piece White Night , which appeared on Brian Eno's album Discreet Music in 1975 . In addition to the USA, his compositions have also been performed in England, Sweden, Germany, Australia and Japan. A review of his compositions from the 1970s and 1980s appeared on the double album Ten Thousand Shades of Blue in 2001 . In 2008 he was commissioned by the Electronic Music Foundation to compose the New York Soundscape concert series .
At more than 2000 concerts, Lainhart has performed compositions by John Cage , David Tudor , Steve Reich , Phill Niblock , David Berhman and Jordan Rudess in addition to his own works . As a filmmaker he emerged in the field of short and animated films. His films have been shown at festivals in the USA, Canada, Germany and Korea. At the International Festival of Cinema and Technology in Toronto, he received prizes in several categories for the film A Haiku Setting . His multimedia work No Other Time received an award from the New York State Council in 2008 .
