Paul-Günter Pötz

Paul-Günter Pötz (born May 13, 1923 in Siegen ; † August 29, 2017 in Bonn ) was a German lawyer and a ministerial director in the Federal Ministry of Justice .

Life

After studying law in Marburg, Pötz entered the higher judicial service in 1954 and was most recently deputy chairman of a youth criminal chamber. In 1959 he moved to the Federal Ministry of Justice in Bonn, where he was head of the International Criminal Law Department for 19 years. From 1980 he worked there as ministerial director and head of the Substantive Criminal Law subdivision until he left in 1988. In addition, from 1963 to 1978 he worked at the European Committee for Criminal Law Matters of the Council of Europe (CDPC), most recently as its President since 1975.

Pötz had been a member of the editorial team of Goltdammer's Archives for Criminal Law since 1965 and was responsible for the monthly publication from 1974 to 2003 as sole editor and editor. Also since 1974 Pötz has earned his scientific reputation as the sole publisher of the standard work on international mutual legal assistance in criminal matters .

Pötz was a member of the German national group of the International Criminal Law Society, from 1974 its general secretary and from 1984 to 1989 chairman of the national group.

He was a member of the Philippina-Saxonia student union in Marburg and the CDU.
