Max Josef Stadler (born March 23, 1949 in Passau ; † May 12, 2013 in Thyrnau ) was a German politician ( FDP ) and worked in the Merkel II cabinet as Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Justice .

Life

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1968 at the Leopoldinum Gymnasium in Passau, Stadler completed a law degree at the University of Regensburg , which he completed in 1973 with the first state examination in law. After completing his legal clerkship , he also passed the second state examination in 1976 and began working as a public prosecutor and later as a judge in the Bavarian judicial service. In 1977 he received his doctorate as Dr. jur. at Ekkehard Schumann at the University of Regensburg with the thesis "Judicial neutrality in the proceedings under the Federal Constitutional Court Act " . From 1982 until his death, Stadler was a lecturer in “Civil Law for Economists” at the University of Passau .

Party career

Stadler had been a member of the FDP since 1972. From 1991 to 1998, Stadler succeeded Josef Grünbeck as regional chairman of the FDP Bavaria . Stadler and the entire state executive resigned in October 1998 due to the fact that the state elections were lost again, as well as an internal party financial affair. In the financial affair, which brought the Bavarian FDP into considerable financial distress and led to massive cuts in the personnel and material budget, Stadler was accused of a lack of controls. In the course of the reappraisal, he made a considerable contribution to make the Bavarian FDP financially viable again. Hermann Stützer became his successor .

In his capacity as state chairman, Stadler was also a member of the FDP federal executive committee .

City Council Passau

Stadler has been a member of the city council of Passau since 1984 and has been chairman of the FDP parliamentary group there since 1990.

Bundestag

Stadler had been a member of the German Bundestag since 1994 . From 1994 to 1998 he was spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group for media policy as well as for post and telecommunications and chairman of the FDP parliamentary group in the study commission “Future of the media in business and society - Germany's way into the information society”. In the 13th legislative period (1994 to 1998) Stadler chairman was the FDP parliamentary group in plutonium - Investigative Committee and in the 14th legislative period (1998 to 2002) in political donations -Untersuchungsausschuss. From January 1998 to March 2000 he was a member of the board of directors of the German-Czech future fund. Stadler was also involved in solving the issue of compensation for forced labor and had been a member of the board of trustees of the “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” foundation since August 2000 . From September 1999 until the end of the 16th electoral term in 2009, Stadler was also a member of the G10 commission . From 2001 to November 2005 he was the domestic political spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group. Since November 2005 Stadler has been chairman of working group IV of the FDP parliamentary group and group spokesman for public service law. In addition, he was deputy chairman of the Interior Committee of the German Bundestag .

On December 14, 2005, Stadler was elected deputy chairman of the parliamentary control body , and in 2007 he became its chairman. He held this office until the end of 2007. From January 1, 2008 to the end of the 16th electoral term, he was again Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Control Committee.

Stadler had been Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Justice since the end of October 2009 .

Max Stadler was always drawn into the Bundestag via the Bavarian State List . His constituency was Passau . He was a member of the Europa-Union parliamentary group of the German Bundestag .

His successor as a member of parliament was Gerhard Drexler .

Public offices

In the 15th electoral term of the German Bundestag (2005–2009) Stadler was a full member of the G10 commission .

Private

Max Stadler was married and had a son. He died of sudden cardiac death on May 12, 2013 at the age of 64 .
