Gerhard Drexler (born January 31, 1964 in Freyung ) is a German politician and former member of the Bundestag for the FDP .

Life

Drexler attended the state secondary school in Freyung until 1981 and then completed an apprenticeship at a regional car dealership. In 1992 he trained as an insurance specialist at the vocational training center for the insurance industry in Soltau and Hamburg , and in 2007 he completed further training as a financial specialist (FH) at the State University of Applied Sciences in Schmalkalden . He is the managing director of his own financial management and insurance broker company.

Gerhard Drexler was President of the Freyung-Grafenau Lions Club at the National Park for the 2012/13 year of office and a member of the Melvin Jones Fellowship.

Political career

Gerhard Drexler was a member of the state board of the FDP Bavaria from 2007 to 2011 , a candidate for the Bundestag (2005 and 2009) and a candidate for the state parliament (2008 and 2013). Drexler was a district administrator candidate in 2008 and was subject to District Administrator Ludwig Lankl (CSU) at the time. Gerhard Drexler has been a district councilor in the Freyung-Grafenau district and city councilor in the district town of Freyung since 2008 .

In 2011 he became a member of the Federal Board of Liberal Medium-Sized Enterprises , and is also Deputy State Chairman and Lower Bavarian District Chairman of Liberal Medium-Sized Enterprises in Bavaria.

In the 2009 Bundestag election Drexler missed entry into the Bundestag by 0.2%, but this made him the first to succeed on the state list of the FDP Bavaria. On May 15, 2013, he was therefore a member of the 17th German Bundestag for four months as the successor to the late Max Stadler . He did not run for the 18th electoral term of the German Bundestag.

Drexler was the first citizen of the district town of Freyung to sit as a member of the German Bundestag. In 2017, Nicole Bauer followed him into parliament

Drexler has been a member of the German Parliamentary Society since 2013 and of the German-Arab Society since 2018
