Ralf Brauksiepe
Ralf Wolfgang Brauksiepe (born March 14, 1967 in Niederwenigern , now Hattingen ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2018 and was Parliamentary State Secretary from 2009 to March 2018 . In 2018 he was also the Federal Government's patient representative . On November 4, 2018, he resigned his Bundestag mandate and moved to Vivawest as Labor Director .
Life and work
After graduating from high school in 1986 at Waldstrasse Hattingen , Brauksiepe studied economics at the Ruhr University in Bochum , which he completed in 1990 with a degree in economics. During his studies, he received a scholarship from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in the gifted program . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Development Research and Development Policy at the Ruhr University in Bochum. In 1995 he received his doctorate here as Dr. rer. oec. with the work "Political Economy of the Transformation of Economic Orders in Developing Countries " . After that he was a research assistant at the seminar for economic and financial policy of the Faculty of Economics at the Ruhr University Bochum until 1998 .
Political party
Brauksiepe joined the Junge Union (JU) and the CDU as a student in 1983 . From 1992 to 1996 he was chairman of the JU district association Ennepe-Ruhr and from 1996 to 2000 regional chairman of the JU North Rhine-Westphalia . From 2001 to 2003 he was a member of the JU Germany Council until reaching the JU age limit.
Since 2001 Brauksiepe has been a member of the state board of the Christian Democratic Workers' Union (CDA) in North Rhine-Westphalia and the CDA federal board. Since 2002 he has been CDA state chairman in North Rhine-Westphalia and since 2003 also deputy federal chairman of the CDA. From 2003 to 2005 Brauksiepe was chief executive officer of the CDA.

Brauksiepe was a member of the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2018 . From 2002 to 2005 he was chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the committee for economic cooperation and development. From November 2005 to October 2009 he was chairman of the labor and social affairs group .
Ralf Brauksiepe has always entered the Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the 2009 Bundestag elections , Brauksiepe moved into the Bundestag with 10th place on the CDU NRW state list - a “safe place on the list”. In the 2013 federal elections , he came 14th in the state list in parliament. In the 2017 federal election , Brauksiepe moved into the Bundestag again, but resigned his mandate on November 4, 2018 and moved to Vivawest as Labor Director.
Public offices
From 2009 to 2013 Brauksiepe held the office of Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in the Merkel II cabinet . Since December 2013 he has been Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defense in the Merkel III cabinet , and has thus followed Federal Minister von der Leyen in the change of ministry. When the Merkel IV cabinet takes office , he will no longer be a member of the federal government. On April 11, 2018, he was named as the Federal Government's patient representative.
In 2016, Brauksiepe was affected by the diplomatic resentment between Turkey and Germany due to the Bundestag resolution condemning the Turkish genocide against the Armenians . In mid-July 2016, he was planning an information trip with some members of the Bundestag to locations of German military activities in the Middle East . In addition to the Bundeswehr mission in Northern Iraq and the headquarters of the anti-IS coalition in Kuwait and Qatar , the withdrawing Bundeswehr mission in Incirlik , Turkey, should also be visited. Turkey banned Brauksiepe from visiting Incirlik Air Base ; German politicians are currently not wanted there. Federal Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen addressed this during a visit to Turkey in early July 2016.
