The Waldstraße grammar school is a grammar school in Hattingen with around 850 students.

History and buildings

The school had several previous schools, so the history of the school goes back to a Latin school in the 17th century. The first Abitur examination took place in 1914. In that year the first building on Waldstrasse , today's "old building", was completed and occupied. The building was originally planned and constructed as a teaching college, but was never used as such. Today the school consists of the representative "old building" as well as the so-called "new building" and two remaining pavilions from the 1970s, as well as the multi-purpose building built in 2010 with cafeteria, lounges and course rooms. Between the summer of 2010 and the summer of 2011, the facade of the old building was completely energetically renovated.

didactics

English , Latin , French and Spanish are taught at the school . Italian is also offered in a study group . The school has its own sports hall and a beach volleyball court. There is a large number of sporting or artistic groups as well as a cooperation between the upper levels and the Holthausen grammar school in order to be able to maintain a wider range of courses.

International contacts

One of the partner schools include Bishop Vesey's Grammar School in Sutton Coldfield , the Lincoln Christ's Hospital School in Lincoln and the Collège St Hadelin in Visé .

In addition, every year there are meetings of 20 students each from Sint-Lodewijkscollege in Bruges , Christ's Hospital School in Lincoln, Elde-College in Schijndel and Instituto Pintor Antonio Lopez in Tres Cantos and this grammar school, each of which is organized in one of the participating schools become. The international contacts are part of the school development . In 2011 the Rota project took place at the Waldstrasse grammar school.
