Lukas Schmitz (born October 13, 1988 in Hattingen ) is a German soccer player . His preferred position is left midfield, but he can also be used in central midfield and full defense. He is under contract with VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands .

Career

Schmitz spent his youth at DJK Märkisch Hattingen in 1925, at TuS Bredenscheid in 1907 and until 2007 at TSG Sprockhövel , interrupted by a year at VfL Bochum . At VfL he played again from 2007 to 2009 in the second team, with whom he qualified for the new Regionalliga West in 2008 . For the 2009/10 season he moved to FC Schalke 04, where he was actually intended for the second team playing in the Regionalliga West. On the sixth day of the Bundesliga season, however, he made his debut in the professional team when he was on the starting line-up for the home game against VfL Wolfsburg (1: 2). In the second round of the DFB Cup of the 2009/2010 season, he met FC Schalke 04 on his former club VfL Bochum. On October 23, 2009 he received a professional contract with FC Schalke 04 retrospectively to July 1, 2009. On October 25, 2009 Lukas Schmitz scored his first goal. In the 3: 3 against Hamburger SV , he ensured the interim equalization to 2: 2. He celebrated his greatest success so far in the 2010/2011 season when he won the DFB Cup with FC Schalke 04.

Schmitz SV Werder Bremen was signed for the 2011/12 season . He received a contract there until June 30, 2015. Initially a regular player, he was ousted in the second half of the 2011/12 season by Florian Hartherz on the left-back position. In the summer of 2014, second division Fortuna Düsseldorf signed him for two years. He made his debut at Fortuna Düsseldorf on August 8, 2014, at 1: 1 at Union Berlin .

For the 2018/19 season he moved to the Austrian Bundesliga club Wolfsberger AC , with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2020. As a regular, Schmitz, now employed as a left-back, made 33 of 35 possible competitive games, scored two goals and was able to prepare four more. With the WAC he was able to qualify as third in the championship round for the Europa League . As a result, the defensive player kept his regular place, but retired with the club in the group stage of the Europa League, but made it to the round of 16 in the national cup . During the season break ordered due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the Dutch first division club VVV-Venlo Schmitz announced that they would sign for the 2020/21 season . Schmitz received a contract with Venlo that runs until June 2022.
