Marie-Luise Marjan
Marie-Luise Marjan (* 9. August 1940 as Marlies Wienkötter in Essen ) is a German actress . She was best known for the role of Helga Beimer in the television series Lindenstrasse .
Life
Marie-Luise Marjan was given to an orphanage by her birth mother, Hildegard Wienkötter from Gladbeck (* October 30, 1920, † May 14, 2004) after her birth in the Elisabeth Hospital in Essen . At the age of one, she came to live with foster parents , the married couple Hanni and Emil Lause , in Hattingen . On August 4, 1947, she was adopted by her foster parents. The birth mother emigrated to Canada in 1956 .
She grew up in Hattingen and attended the girls' grammar school there, where she demonstrated her acting talent early on in school performances. After high school, she graduated from the Hamburg University of Music and Theater from 1958 to 1960 with Eduard Marks . From 1960 to 1982 she was continuously engaged in major theaters: Komödie Basel , 1961 to 1965 Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe , 1965 to 1967 stages of the city of Bonn , 1967 to 1979 Schauspielhaus Bochum , 1979 Freie Volksbühne Berlin and 1982 to 1983 Thalia Theater Hamburg . She also completed Lee Strasberg seminars in Hollywood , Paris and Hamburg. In the animated films Shrek 2 and Shrek 3 , Marie-Luise Marjan speaks Queen Lillian (originally Julie Andrews ).
Marjan lives in Cologne . She has a half-brother who is five years her junior and who lives in the Allgäu . She only found out about its existence at the age of 67 while doing research for the ARD documentary series The Secret of My Family . The name Marie-Luise Marjan is a stage name that is also entered on her passport. In 1995 she recorded the LP What is close to my heart .
Your role as Helga Beimer
From the start of the television series Lindenstrasse in December 1985 until it was discontinued in March 2020, Marjan played the role of Helga Beimer. In 2015 she said: “What I find interesting about Helga Beimer is her motherliness, her humor, her assertiveness. I always enjoy playing this role. Your development in 30 years of the TV series Lindenstrasse offers many facets of acting. From the housemaid, to self-employment after the TV divorce, to the travel agent with her own travel agency, to the tough pensioner and grandma. It is a privilege of this series that we are allowed to grow older with our viewers ”.

Marjan has been involved with UNICEF and the children's aid organization PLAN International since 1990 . With PLAN International she supports five sponsored children in India , Sri Lanka , Vietnam , Paraguay and Haiti . She is a member of the board of trustees of Plan International Germany . In 2010 she founded the Marie Luise Marjan Foundation under the umbrella of PLAN, the purpose of which is to support projects around the world to support children in need, especially disadvantaged girls.
Among other things, she is a member of the Citizens' Committee Alternative Honorary Citizenship, which awards alternative Cologne honorary citizenship in Cologne . Since 2018 she has also been the fairy tale ambassador for the city of Hanau and the Brothers Grimm Festival there.
