Ulrich Pleitgen (born November 1, 1942 in Hanover  ; † February 21, 2018 in Hamburg ) was a German actor and speaker who was known to the audience mainly through television roles.

Career

Pleitgen gained his first experience as an actor at the age of eleven in the Dassel boarding school theater. An apprenticeship at the Hanover University of Music and Theater was followed by engagements at the Berlin Schillertheater , the theaters of Basel , Bochum and Frankfurt , at the Stuttgart State Theater and from 1980 at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg.

In 1972 he was awarded the Berlin Art Prize as the best young actor , and in 1984 the specialist magazine Theater heute voted him actor of the year .

After leaving the Thalia Theater ensemble in 1989, Ulrich Pleitgen devoted himself mainly to his roles in cinema and television films.

Not least thanks to his acting performance as judge Prinzing, the film Stammheim was awarded a Golden Bear . In 1994 Pleitgen received a Bambi for his portrayal of Wolfgang Schefer in the television series Not from Bad Parents .

From 2003 to 2011 he acted in the successful ARD television series Familie Dr. Kleist the pharmacist Johannes Kleist. In the summer of 2006 he had to interrupt all filming and take a break due to illness. He therefore gave up his role in K3 - Kripo Hamburg .

After his recovery, Ulrich Pleitgen stood in March 2007 for the 3rd season of the Dr. Kleist in front of the camera in Eisenach .

In addition to his work as an actor, Ulrich Pleitgen organized readings and worked as a speaker for audio books . In this context, he has won numerous prizes, for example the Osterwold Prize 2005 from Audiobook Hamburg for the best audio book interpretation and in the same year the gold record for more than 100,000 sold audio books of the novel Assassini by Thomas Gifford . In 2006 he received the German Audio Book Prize for the book Lauf, Junge ,lauf by Uri Orlev . In 2007 Ulrich Pleitgen received the German Record Critics' Prize and was selected by the jury of the hr2 audio book best list .

In collaboration with Iris Berben as Leonie Goron, he spoke the role of Edgar Allan Poe in the 37-part audio play series Edgar Allan Poe at Lübbe-Audio from 2003 to 2009 . Ulrich Pleitgen was the godfather of the Björn Steiger Foundation for the project “Rescue goes to school”.

Ulrich Pleitgen died of heart failure on February 21, 2018 at the age of 75 .

Private

Pleitgen was married to the actress Ann-Monika Pleitgen . His stepson is the physicist and author Ilja Bohnet . Ulrich Pleitgen was distantly related to the journalist and former WDR director Fritz Pleitgen .
