Wolf Gremm
Wolf Gremm (born February 26, 1942 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † July 14, 2015 in Berlin ) was a German director and screenwriter .
life and work
Wolf Gremm first studied German, psychology, sociology and theater studies in Heidelberg, Vienna and Berlin in the 1960s before he began studying directing at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. In 1973 he made his first movie with I Thought I Was Dead . He established himself as one of the most important German auteur filmmakers in the 1970s. His friendship with Rainer Werner Fassbinder led to his films Kamikaze 1989 , in which Fassbinder played the leading role, and the documentary Rainer Werner Fassbinder - The Last Year .
He had his greatest international success with his film adaptation of the Erich Kästner novel Fabian . Hans Peter Hallwachs played the title role in 1980. In 1973 Gremm was awarded the German Critics' Prize.
Wolf Gremm had been married to the film producer Regina Ziegler since 1977 , who had started her career as a film producer with Gremm's debut film in 1973. He died on July 14, 2015 at the age of 73 in Berlin of complications from cancer.
